Summer in Wisconsin is my favorite! One of my favorite locations for summer is the 3rd Ward. This urban backdrop is perfect for photos.
These Magnolia Mini Sessions are a hit every year!
There’s nothing sweeter than documenting those first few days at home!
It’s never too early to reach out! Book your newborn session here.
Happy March! It’s getting so close to spring and summer… and I can’t wait! Summer is the perfect time for family photos.
Update your family photos when the weather is warm and beautiful! The earlier you get on my calendar the better. We all know how fast our summer schedules fill up. Between sports, activities and vacations, summer can fly by fast!
Have you ever looked back a year ago and thought, wow the kids were SO little! Time really does fly by. If you keep putting off family photos waiting to get to your perfect weight or once this event is checked off….it won’t get scheduled. You’ll miss out capturing those moments when your kids were ‘little’. Before you know it, they will be out of the stage you remember from ‘last year.’
You won’t regret getting in those pictures with your babies! Your kids won’t remember how you felt about yourself, but they will love seeing you in the pictures with them.
What are you waiting for?!
Congratulations! Those first few days at home can be a blur. You won’t regret having newborn photos done, but you will regret not having them done! Babies change so much in the first year.
Within the first 5-14 days. There is some leeway… as my style is lifestyle newborn.
Immediate family members are included in your newborn session!
The sooner, the better! Grab your spot on my calendar before it fills up!
Congratulations! You’re expecting and have a newborn session scheduled for in your home. What happens next?
First off, plan your outfits around you. You want to feel comfortable and confident. Stick to neutral colors and build a color pallet off of your outfit. Don’t match, but coordinate colors. I offer style and select for all my clients to help in planning their outfits. As always, reach out for advice! I’m happy to guide you in the right direction.
Secondly, prepare your home. I typically shoot in the living room, master bedroom and nursery. Sometimes, I’ll use the kitchen too! Clean and declutter these rooms ahead of your session. I’ll be looking for the most natural light, so if there is another room in your house we could use, great!
This goes hand in hand, but the time of day is important when doing a photoshoot in your home. Things to think about… when does my home get the best natural light? I default to late morning for in home sessions as that usually gives the best natural light in the house. (Late morning also tends to work for older siblings that still take naps in the early afternoon.)
Relax. I’ll be coming in the comfort of your own home to capture those first few moments with your new baby. I’ll get a few of those everyone looking at the camera, but my favorite to capture are those in between moments. You gazing at your newborn, how tiny they are in your arms or how suddenly you toddler doesn’t look so little anymore. The session will be led by your baby (or toddler). If we need to take breaks for eating, soothing, tantrums or diaper changes… that is okay! I’m a mom of 3 and get it. :)
Lastly, if you have pets….they will be in your photos. That is all. Can’t wait to meet you and your family!

You’ve booked your Newborn Session with Katie Bingen Photography.
…NOW WHAT?
I recommend sticking to light neutral, muted colors. For baby, bring along a favorite outfit, headband(s), swaddle(s) and a white onesie. A style guide and Pinterest idea board will be sent over upon booking. Don’t overthink it too much! First and foremost, be comfortable in the clothes you pick for yourself. You want to feel your best in the photos!
Newborn Sessions are 1-2 hours. Why are my sessions this long? Babies rule the session. That’s right, if your baby is hungry, needs a diaper change or needs to be snuggled to calm down, don’t worry! These sessions are meant to be relaxed. There is no rush.
Great! The whole family (mom, dad and siblings….even pets!) are included in all of my sessions! Worried how they will behave? I have kids ranging from 2-7. Nothing phases me, I’ve seen it all! Bring along a favorite toy of snack for your toddler. We will start out with family and sibling shots to get their portion of the session done right away. By the end of the session, most toddler’s will want their own individual picture on each chair in the studio (or your living room). ;)
All in all, relax. I’ve done countless numbers of newborn sessions. I have young kids of my own. I love working with babies and your older kiddos! Can’t wait to meet you!

Here are a few more tips for styling your photo session:
1. Stick to neutral colors. Avoid bright, neon or logo clothes.
2. Pick a color palette you love and will look good when you print your pictures to hang on your walls.
3. Stick to one pattern and coordinate colors. Its best not to match with the exact same shirt or pattern.
4. Ask me for help! Seriously, if you have a question, I'd be more than happy to give you some guidance.

You would be surprised what you can pull together right out of your own closet! <3

Vanessa is a good friend and also a photographer in Pewaukee. Its fun to get our kids together and location scout. We have daughters close in age and now sons too. This session was back in May in between thunderstorms. So glad we decided to wait in the car for a few minutes for the clouds to clear!
It was such an honor to capture this time in their lives. Photographing a photographer is definitely nerve-wracking!! Here are a few favorites from their family maternity session.
